More characters will be added as they appear. This document may contain unmarked spoilers.

The pronunciation help provided with most characters’ names are clumsy approximations, so it is strongly advised that you read the cultural notes and familiarise yourself with the basics of the languages if you want to pronounce the names better. If any native speakers have suggestions for better transcriptions for an English-speaking audience, please send a friendly email to wenzel.franziska@web.de!

That said, I hope the list will still serve as a handy shorthand to look up and remember individual names more easily.

For reference for the transcriptions, a is always as in “hard”, e is always as in “hello”, u as the oo’s in “book”. The English “i” sound (as in “ice”) is transcribed as “aye”, if you see the letter i, it is always meant to be read as in “silly”.

A young immortal and song magic prodigy.

Kalyani

Kalyani Karthika
 (kal-i-YA-ni KART-di-ka)

Nalini’s mother and one of the Sovereign’s oldest allies.

Feng Bai

Feng Bai (fang bay)

A runaway immortal from Starfall. Accidentally (?) picks up Nalini.

Feng Wenyi

Feng Wenyi (fang wen-YEE)

Feng Bai’s twin sister. She refuses to play song magic herself, but still builds and maintains his instruments.

Abhay

Abhay Kelasa (ab-HAY ke-LA-sa)
An immortal. Unlike the others, the sole effect of their song magic is decay.

Purnima

Purnima Varsha (POOR-ni-ma VAR-sha)

Abhay’s distant cousin.

Omoniku

Omoniku Adebola

An immortal and one of the Sovereign’s oldest allies.

The Mountains

Skentasheskó:wa (sga-da-ses-GO-wa)

Feng Bai’s husband. His designated job is to watch both twins so their powers don’t spiral out of control. Deserves a pay raise.

Ajaka Ajasoro

A retired merchant turned pirate. Omoremi’s father.

Zhou Le

Zhou Le (djo le)

One of Ajaka’s oldest friends.

Asha

Asha (A-sha)

Ajaka’s right-hand woman.

Vinay

Vinay (vi-NAY)

One of Ajaka’s pirates.
